I'm not a bird watcher...I have no idea what kind of bird this is. But I do know I was in a peaceful spot on the island when I saw it and there was just something about the scene that whispered, slow down and enjoy a quiet moment...something I needed to hear.
The Hawaiian name for the West Maui Mountains is Mauna Kahalewai...or House of Water, although some refer to the mountains as Hale Mahina, or House of the Moon. I love this view; the mountain range looks different every hour of every day. Shrouded in mist one moment, crystal clear and vibrant the next.
Years ago I tried to describe the green of Maui as "vibrant chartreuse" to a friend. Pretty redundant, I suppose...but the beauty of the color green on this island never ceases to amaze me. Just a month or so ago, the hills were so green that everyone was commenting...visitors and locals alike. I think it's kind of ironic that previous generations referred to green as "the color of money," while today it has to do more with ways to save money. But all in all, it's just a color. And my favorite shade is vibrant chartreuse.
