The Last Mill

Part of HC&S (Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar), the Pu'unene Mill, built in 1901, has been repeatedly modernized; it now has the ability to process 7,200 tons of cane per day. Though looking at the mill takes you back in time, it was among the first in the industry to be completely computer controlled.  

Though "modernized," the Pu'unene Mill is the last operational mill on Maui (the Lahaina and Paia mills closed years ago), and it is one of only two operational mills in all of Hawaii.  The other mill is the Olokele Mill on Kauai, and it will close after the cane currently in the ground is harvested and processed, leaving the Maui Mill as a working symbol of a bygone era.
